Netflix: Your nagging conscience

I love Netflix. I do get a lot for what I pay for each month. Thanks to it, the word ‘sleep’ has disappeared from my vocabulary. Netflix is a nagging little conscience that just won’t quit until it sees you binging on your favourite TV Shows or Movies, regardless of whether your eyes are red and shutting down, or you are alert and awake. If you have Netflix (like me) you’re probably craving a long and proper sleep. Here’s a reminder of what that’s like:

-Netflix makes you like movies you never thought you would. Your quality senses usually decrease at night, when you decide to watch a movie, because it has become part of your routine.

-Netflix is your lullaby. There are times when your favourite TV show or movie become your bed time story. Because sleeping on your own terms has become your weakness, and you must listen to your favourite plots in order to regain your sleepiness. You know, because how dare one go to sleep without listening to Rose cry as she realizes Jack has officially gained his wings (Titanic).

-Netflix is good for your budget. Ever had those sudden cravings or a scheduled trip to the supermarket? Forget it. Netflix will remind you not to go because your favourite scene is about to play. Sometimes, you’ll find yourself grabbing a plate of fruit, instead of going to the store to buy a box of ice cream cones, because yes the movie is THAT good.

-Netflix has somewhat increase your reputation. The staff at your local library will believe you when you tell them you’re thinking of checking out books and that you’ll actually read them.

-Netflix has changed the way you watch TV. On the rare occasion you decide to check your cable channels, commercials will drive you insane to the point of no return. You now have zero patience.

-Friends? What friends? Oh, you mean the ones you converted into loving Netflix and are staying home chatting with you when you could be hanging out? Oh yes, I remember.

-Netflix has made you movie greedy. How dare Netflix charge you so much per month and not have every movie in existence? After all, you have sacrificed part of your monthly clothing budget to pay for it. Yes, very first world problem.

-Netflix has made you forgiving. It may not have all the movies, but it only takes one TV show or movie that takes you down childhood memory lane for you to trust it again.

-Netflix: You have a paper? How about a long movie?

-Netflix: Homework? How about a career change? Watch movies and become a movie critic.

Netflix is awesome, though. It does kill boredom :p, and I can relive the good old memories by watching some of my favourite movies and TV shows, without commercials and whenever I want. It feels good having a bit of control despite the hectic work schedule! Hey, if your favourite dance scene comes out, you can dance to it without making a fool of yourself :p (well, that is until you do decide to show this dance to your friends and end up making a fool of yourself).

Thank you! Merci! Gracias! Netflix!

If I ever had doubts about your greatness, oh dear Netflix, I have none now. I don’t know why I did not notice before, or perhaps you recently just added these and I missed them, but I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart for adding ‘The X Files’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes 2’. You’ve just given me a new reason to drool over watch Robert Downey Jr. I have to admit, the first Sherlock Holmes wasn’t great, but the second one was awesome, and it gives me a reason to dream about what life would’ve been if I were married to RDJ stay up late…

Okay, sorry, I was just daydreaming about being rescued by Iron Man.

Oh, and yes..The X-files, Netflix has added ALL 9 seasons of The X Files. This is beyond awesome! Oh my goodness RDJ as Sherlock…ah okay, back to The X-Files. Well, there’s not much to say about that now, is there? Yes yes, I want to go see RDJ! Thank you Netflix!

Do YOU watch Netflix?

My top 13 favourite TV shows

It’s time for our segment, “Let’s get to know Ellie.” Today’s topic: TV shows! The prizes? Well, you get to know me better? Don’t be greedy, dude!

I don’t watch a lot of TV (I prefer movies), but when I do I watch these shows, either on Netflix (if available) or on TV. My sis lives on the other side of the country, so she’s 3 hours behind. We watch Grey’s Anatomy at the same time, I just stay up until midnight (9pm her time) so we can watch it together! It’s called, Thursday sister bonding.

Here’s my top 13 in no particular order:

1) Grey’s Anatomy

2) Once Upon a Time

3) I Love Lucy

4) Charmed

5) Full House (still watch it on DVD)

6) Boy meets World

7) Whose Line is it anyway?

8) Castle

9) The Big Bang Theory

10) Criminal Minds

11) The Ellen DeGeneres Show

12) Raising Hope

13) Under the Dome

Unproductive day off

We’ve all had those lazy days, which strike specifically on days off work. It doesn’t always turn out as planned, which I guess is nature’s way of getting back at you, for her own amusement (you know, because Mother Nature has 24/7 PMS).

The Planning: It starts the night before, usually before you go to sleep. You tell yourself, tomorrow will be such a productive day. You have so many things in your mind, that you’d like to do. Carefully, you write down a list in your mind and narrow down your choices. Sleeping in, breakfast, gym, errands, cinema, friends? My goodness! You have a fantastic day ahead.

Decisions: The first you’re going to do for sure is sleep in. You set your alarm so you wake up 2 hours later than usual. After all, you need to have the rest of the day free, for all the fun things you’ve planned. You choose your breakfast. Healthy or unhealthy? It doesn’t matter, you’re just happy you’ll have time to have breakfast. Besides, you’ll be hitting the gym soon after. You check the gym schedule and find out there are a few fun classes you can try! It’s going to be the best day ever! So, after sleeping in, you’ll have breakfast, then gym. There goes half the day already, good planning so far! After the gym, you gotta send some mail, get some groceries, but that shouldn’t take too long. Then, you’ll clean your room, skype with a few friends, and hopefully hit the mall to take advantage of clearance sales. How about ending the day at the movies? Awesome! It’s set!

Day off arrives:

1) Alarm goes off! Yawn! Hit snooze. It goes off again. Yawn! Forget it, you turn it off. You want to finish this awesome dream. Wait, what? That’s not possible. It can’t be noon!!!!! You missed the gym class!!! Okay, relax. You still have half the day.

2) You’re now too upset to have a full breakfast, so you just eat a boiled egg and drink milk.

3) You calm down. Okay, you’ll exercise at home with your iphone app (because it’s like a fake gym). Ugh! You forgot to charge it, but it’s okay, you can still use it while it recharges. You workout and you’re happy.

4) You get ready to go run your errands, but then look at the weather and you see there’s a wind chill warning! There goes the daily walk. But, you won’t give in, you will still wear layers and get out in this freezing weather, and walk! So, you step out of the house, and as soon as you feel the cold wind, you regret everything you’ve ever done in your life.

5) You managed to run your errands, and there’s still a bit of time left to clean your room. You start organizing and cleaning to your favourite songs, when you somehow, decide to check Netflix. Bad idea! They’ve added a few movies. You take a sit…It’s now evening. Forget the mall, this movie is so good.

Conclusion: By the time you finish the movies, it’ll be time to get ready for bed. You know, for a nap, because you’ve taken most of the night watching movies.

The next day: You’ve only had a few hours of ‘sleep’ (because during your ‘sleep’ you were thinking about, how tired you’re going to be in the morning), and have an early shift at work.
