Looking back into the past with your best friends

The essence of friendship, relies solely on the power to momentarily overlook the count of how many friends you have, and instead count their value they bring into your life. With that being said, I may speak based on my own experience, but at some point in your life, you and your best friends will look back and laugh at the corniness of your pasts.

1) That guy you were convinced your best friend was going to marry. Yes that guy who was a model citizen back when you encouraged her to confess her “love” to him, who is now a complete douchebag and only serves as a reminder that you can overcome mistakes.

2) The day your instincts were right.

http://reactiongifs.com/?p=22687

3) When you watched movies and you were both convinced they were based on your lives.

4) The first time you had too much to drink in front of your best friend, and you tried to act like you were fine.

5) The popcorn button on the microwave didn’t do s**t, and it took 2 bags to figure it out.

6) When one of you had to move away ,and you put on a brave face to stop the Apocalyptic feeling that ran through your veins.

Not every friend who enters your life will stay, but a good friend will leave a good feeling in your life forever. The best you can do is build memories and carry on.

Special ways of greeting and inside jokes. Got any?

I have to say I have different ones with my friends, and it’s funny to see the look on other people’s faces when they don’t get what we’re saying :p. Of course, we explain to them so they won’t feel left out, but it’s funny anyway. Here a few of my inside jokes and greetings I have with my friends:

1) One of my friends got the song, ‘I will survive’ stuck in my head for a while. Since then, every time we see each other, it goes like this:

Friend: I will survive…

Me: …hey, hey!

 ~~~
2) I have a friend with whom I speak in LOTR code.
Me: Could you GIMLI a second?
Friend: Sure, ARWEN you come back, could you…?
 ~~~

3) One of my best friends loves monkeys as much as I love penguins, so this is us:

Me: Hello, your monkeyness

Her: Hey, penguinista!

~~~
4) I don’t know how it all started, but I always call my sis, “ladybug”. I’m still trying to remember why :p.
How about you?
Friendship – A to Z challenge
A to Z challenge letter for today: F
Friendship
Friends do not last forever, we all know that, yet sometimes we take the good ones for granted. I guess it is in our turmoil of emotions where we get lost and forget to thank our friends for withstanding our rants. The good ones will remain by our side and help us pass the unexpected roadblocks. Do we take the time to be there for them? We do. Do we thank them all the time? Sometimes we forget. Subconsciously, we expect them to help us or stand in front of us and listen to our achievements and failures, and it isn’t our fault. However, it is in our friend duty to recognize whenever they may have surpassed  our expectations. Good friends do not ask for a reward, nor do they even ask for a gesture of gratitude, but inside them they want you to thank them. Respect your friends and do not help them because you have to, but because you love and care for them. This is a quick reminder that we DO have friends who love us, but we must return their selfless act and be good friends, as well.
I have a thousand aunts
editpics (26)
A thousand is an exaggeration, but it feels that way, and it is an amazing thing. You see, these “thousand” aunts of whom I speak are not my biological aunts, but they are the fruit of an everlasting friendship that was formed during my mum’s school years. I’m not going to mention names nor ages, because what’s important is what their sentiments have shown me.
A lot of times we take our friendships for granted, and sometimes there are poisonous friendships worth abandoning. But what they have taught me is that a solid friendship is not impossible. I have many solid friendships myself, and you have no idea how tight I hold on to them; not because I have to or I’m afraid of being alone, but because of their tremendous value they have brought in my life’ just like my aunts. “Oh,  you’re exaggerating. I’m sure they’ve made you uncomfortable at some point.” In all honesty, absolutely not. They’ve always shown me their effectiveness of ushering my life with joy. It has been countless times that my thousand aunts have been there for me and my family ; they are my family. They saw me in mum’s belly, they saw me as a baby, and they saw me growing up. I visited them and their children many times; some were older than me and some were babies and I called them ‘cousins’. I remember one of them at my 6th birthday party, he was (I think) less than a year old; he’s now in his early 20’s! In addition, I recall a visit to another aunt when I was little, and her daughters introduced  me to the Curious George series (the old school ones). My aunts opened the doors for me to explore other worlds and languages (some of their children spoke German), and always reminding me of living life in quality and not quantity.
They have always had a positive impact in my life, and responded within seconds to any struggles I, my family, or other aunts have faced. They were there when my grandma passed away, and were there last year when my grandpa passed away. They’re like the A-Team, except with Aunts, or Guardian Angels if you want a different name choice. There was even a point when one of my aunts became my substitute Math teacher. Of course, I did get in trouble with her for talking too much (at this point, my mum was used to getting these type of phone calls), but she was gracious and during that time, I enjoyed Math –after she stopped teaching me, I disliked it again (typical).
What inspired me to write this post  is the current undeserving mishaps life has brought them lately. Without going into much detail due to privacy, I can say that it is related to grief and health issues. This is one of the ways I want to honour them. However, despite everything that is happening to them, they never break, but they show courage, kindness, and Faith. What a wonderful thing is to have people surrounding you, who are selfless, and act from their hearts to ensure YOU are well. They probably do not realize the impact they’ve had in my life (and others), but I can attest to the positive imprint that they have marked (and continue to do so) in this world, and I will pass on their legacy to my future generations.
I have a thousand beloved aunts, not in the literal form, but it sure feels like it, and that’s a good thing. I feel like I have a thousand aunts, because they’re walking angels who show that friendship is everlasting. They remind me of the goodness in the world and that love and true friendships still exist. Hold on tight to those you love and the ones who love you back, because eventually, their lives and our lives will let go of each other.
PS: This is my 100th post!
Friendship
Friends come and go, but true friendships last forever. It is no sufficient to acknowledge the presence of your current friends, but one must ensure you are not both taking each other for granted. Think about it as being a good plate of food. In order to achieve it, you need the perfect combination of seasoning, ingredients, and love. Friendships cannot be held without a mix of emotions and love. There is no such thing as a perfect friendship, but there is a true one, where you and others strive to bring the best out of each other.
It is the flaws that help you discover new approaches for the present and the future. Life changes every second, and it is those failures that cause a shift into the right direction of a friendship; but, that is only if you don’t discard the friendship that’s worth saving. It is easy to throw away faded friendships, and sometimes you do have to, if they become toxic. However, you must not be afraid to try to rebuild that past friendship, if the only thing that stood in the way was a schedule conflict.
We all take different paths in life in terms of following our goals, but we are all taking the same time path towards the future. Keep in touch, let your friends know you’re there, listen to them, laugh, cry, be silly, have fights and make up. A true friendship cannot evolve without a few bumps on the road. Redefine the core of the friendship, remember why you became friends and how, not why you’re friends in the present. It’s good to look into the past, but do not remain there. Instead, take from the past, live in the present, and brainstorm about the future. They say quality is better than quantity, and I definitely agree with that. Surround yourself with people who want and do what’s best for you. Every friend will bring a different spice into your world, and vice versa.
But, what about Acquaintances?
They are like signs you pass by on the road, they’re not meant to be a huge part of your life – which is why they are acquaintances – but, they’re there as a warning or a reminder of what will/could happen. Some of them might become your long-time friend, or even your long-time partner, but the only way to know is by paying attention to who they are, and who are they turning you into.
Just use your instinct, you’ll know who the right friend is for you. Get to know them, learn how they react and how they show their love to others. Everyone expresses their feelings in a different way; some are jokers, and some are sensitive, but they will all demonstrate why you mean so much to them, in a good and healthy way. Friends are not video games you shelf that you only pick when its convenient, nor are they trophies you collect and show off when it suits you. They’re the treasures you want to share. They fill you with so much enlightenment, you feel as though the world must know them.
Friendships aren’t meant to fulfil your greed and envy, and it is not a selective contest. They’re magnets to your own good will, that end in the resolution of both of your quests in the seek of a lifelong unity.
Of course! The world doesn’t rule me today!
Short Story: Laura’s Closet – Part Three
Just a little background about this story. I was inspired by a conversation with 2 of my friends, during my vacation in Vancouver :). I started writing it last week. I’m giving the readers a bit of time before I post the other parts, so you can all catch up!
If you haven’t read the first 2 parts of this short story (both links open in a new window), here they are:
Laura’s Closet – Part One
Laura’s Closet – Part Two
Laura’s Closet – Part Three
Laura’s attempts to contact her friends were disappointing; all her calls went straight to voicemail. She tried to desperately write everything she had gone through, just in case her memories started to fade. “Hello, Mother Nature? Are you there? Can you hear me? Please, come!” She shouted.
For all she knew, everything could have been a dream. She sat on her bed and talked to herself. “Ok, maybe it WAS a dream. It really happened, but it happened in a dream. Alright, I’m not making any sense”. She started pacing around the room, coming up with explanations in her mind – none of them led to anything. “If I sleep, I might see her. But, she has control over the weather, so if I go outside and shout her name, she might come? No wait, people will think I’m insane. I don’t know what to do!” she whined.
But, she took a nap anyway, to try and make contact with Mother Nature. She was the type of person who didn’t like to feel useless. She had to keep occupied. She awoke a couple of hours later, feeling restless and still without answers. However, she saw she had two voicemails, from Alliese and Sonia. “Finally, now we’re getting somewhere,” she positively thought.
She invited them over to her place for tea. She made sure to get her box filled with a variety of organic teas, and a box of ladyfingers. At the last minute, she quickly grabbed a bottle of red wine, she had been saving for extraordinary occasions – this was it. After all, she wasn’t sure of how they were going to react to her situation. It was black or white to her; either they understood and supported, or they supported and had her committed to an institution.
She heard the intercom and let them in. Alliese and Sonia were very happy to see her, but Laura couldn’t hide her confusion under the fake smile she forced herself to make.
“Ok, what’s wrong?” Asked Sonia.
“Nothing.” Laura responded.
Alliese knew her better than to go back and forth with Laura, trying to get the scoop of whatever she was hiding. She went straight to the table and opened the bottle of wine, poured three glasses, gently grabbed Laura’s arm and led her to the sofa. “Okay, spill, spill it all, spill the beans, the cookies, spill it all except for the wine” Alliese told her. Laura let out a chuckle, and she knew she had to tell them. “Alright, but hold on to that wine glass,” she comfortably sat on the sofa.
“Wait, how come when it was ME who asked if something was wrong, you didn’t say anything?” Sonia asked.
“That’s because I opened the wine. Everyone knows wine is a secret spiller,” Alliese said.
“Fair enough, but I’m still upset,” Sonia added.
“You won’t be after I tell you what happened,” Laura interrupted.
She proceeded to tell them about her hike and her encounter with Mother Nature.  “There! Now say it, I’m crazy, right?” Laura took three sips of wine and waited for a reaction. She did not get any reactions for a bit. Instead, she saw their owl-like eyes fixated upon her, for a good five minutes. It seemed like they were in some sort of trance, but she figured it was the wine that added the extra effect.
“Well…?” She asked them.
“You are right. We need to send you to a mental institution,” Alliese said.
“Sadly, I agree,” Sonia added.
Even though, part of her thought this would happen, Laura wasn’t expecting it to be so sudden and cold. Alliese and Sonia stood at the same time; Sonia went to the kitchen, and Alliese grabbed her cell phone. Seeing this, Laura was getting agitated. She thought it wasn’t fair that, they didn’t even try to process it. They just stared at her for five minutes.  “Maybe you need time to process it. I know this is all very weird!” She yelled at Alliese, who seemed to be on hold on the phone. But, before she could respond to Laura, she began talking to someone on the other line. “Yes, I’d like a large with spicy sausage, pepperoni and green peppers…”
Laura was confused, why was Alliese ordering pizza? This whole time she thought she was calling all the mental institutions, to see which one would take her, as soon as possible. Alliese hung up, but before she could speak, Sonia reappeared with plates and napkins.
“Wait, what? What’s going on? I’m confused, Alliese. Weren’t you calling specialists?”Laura said tensely.
“Do you think we would? Oh my goodness, Sonia, are you hearing this? I knew she would think, we’d have her committed!” Alliese laughed.
“But, you said…” Laura paused.
“Yes, but I was joking. Well, we were joking. I can’t believe you actually fell for it, ha ha. I was just trying to ease the tension you seemed to be having,” she laughed.
Laura didn’t feel like being part of a joke, but she admitted to herself that it was a good one. These were her best friends, why would she think they would send her away so quickly? She was relieved that she wasn’t going anywhere. Even if they ended up thinking she was insane, at least she had more time to convince them otherwise -Or to convince herself she wasn’t crazy. There was still a chance she was.
Once the pizza arrived, they brainstormed ideas on how to use this new “power”.  A lot of questions poured over their table. “Have you thought of creating your own weather channel?” Sonia suggested.  They thought about it for a few minutes, but Laura mentioned what Mother Nature told her, that it was to find the answers to her deepest sorrows. She didn’t think her own weather channel would calm all the turmoil in her soul-whatever turmoil that was, she was still unsure of what it was.
Alliese suddenly had a thought in mind, “You know what we need to do? We need to come up with a name for Mother Nature. Calling her Mother Nature is just too tiring,” she said. Laura and Sonia cried with laughter, but stopped at the realization that she had a good idea. She thought it would be a good way to make her seem a bit more human to them, and make her visit seem a bit less chaotic.
“How does Melissa sound?” Laura said.
“Too common,” Sonia answered.
“That’s the whole point, isn’t it?” Laura asked.
After a list filled with a hundred names, they finally agreed that Mother Nature’s nickname would be, Elena. The three friends seemed happy about it, and went back to brainstorming. Laura thought about the weather and how in the morning, she seemed to have picked the right outfit without thinking. Suddenly, an idea popped in her mind. “So, how about a blog?” she asked. They paused for a couple of minutes, looking at each other back and forth. It looked like they were getting somewhere.
A blog just about the weather sounded too simple, and they wanted to take it one step further. “Not just a weather blog, but about fashion!” Laura said. But, she wouldn’t let her friends respond. Instead, she shouted ideas out loud, that caught their attention. “We’re not just going to talk about the weather. We will simply suggest fashion trends for daily wear, based on weather prediction. In fact, we shouldn’t even talk about the weather. We’ll just write about outfits people should wear each day, that will be accurately appropriate for the day’s weather,” Laura explained.
And so, the idea started to become a reality in their minds. Alliese was going to help with the web design, Sonia was going to help with the editing, Laura was going to predict the weather, and they were all going to come up with fashion ideas. All they needed is a name for the blog. They decided on using Laura’s name, because “Elena” did mention this was to be a learning experience for her. And so they came up with the name, “Laura’s Closet”.
