Daily Prompt: Antique Antics

Today’s daily promptWhat’s the oldest thing you own? (Toys, clothing, twinkies, Grecian urns: anything’s fair game.) Recount its history — from the object’s point of view.

The oldest thing I own? You mean, besides myself? (small lame joke of the day :p). I have to tell you, when I was little I used a lot of my toys and clothes until I couldn’t play with them anymore, unless I had an emotional attachment to them. In a way, the toys and clothes served their purpose. One of the oldest things I own is a giraffe that was given to me by one of my uncles. I can’t remember how old I was, but I recall when he gave it to me. For no particular reason, I just fell in love with the giraffe, and I took great care of it. Assuming I was around 6 years old, this giraffe was given to me 20 years ago and it’s still in great shape! Funny enough, I didn’t give it a name :p.

If the giraffe were to say something from its point of view, it would say: “Thank you for not destroying me after all this years”.

I’m not listening to the weather network anymore…

“Thunderstorm risk,” they said.

“Chance of showers,” they said.

“Bring an umbrella,” they said.

Yeah, because on a sunny cloudless day, it is safe to assume you’ll be soaked. You totally dropped the ball on that one, Weather Network. Last time, you said no chance of showers, but guess what? It poured like a crying hormonal woman watching The Notebook.

On a positive note, I did enjoy a nice walk :p, and the rain in Ontario is not as frequent as in Vancouver :p.

Ellie’s Updates!

Life has been hectic (as if it never was), but here are a few things that have been going on in my life :p.

http://reactiongifs.com/?p=1835

1) I’m alive, which is always a plus.

2) Work. Inevitable.

3) I’m going to Medieval Times in Toronto!! I’m excited about this :D.

4) Still drooling over the photos Robert Downey Jr. shares on his Facebook page.

5) I’m trying to find the time to hit the art store and buy my art supplies.

6) Can you believe I haven’t touched my novel in a few weeks? There are lot of things happening at work right now, which have prevented me from revising, but I’ll get there 🙂

7) I’m going to put together a small poetry book for my friends and family. It’s my own version of self-publishing :p

8) I watched The Pianist and cried like a newborn baby.

9) I’ve been reading about the Romanticism era (just for fun).

10) I bought a book called ‘The Winter Witch’ by Paula Brackston. It’s a historical novel. I’ll let you know how I feel after I finish reading it. I’ve only read 10 pages so far.

11) I’ve been keeping up with my tradition of watching Lord of the Rings and Titanic monthly. I gotta slowly add Jurassic Park back to the tradition.

12) A friend’s son, 6 year-old businessman, began fundraising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and he reached his goal! I’m very proud! I’ve known this little buddy since his mom was pregnant. Of course, I also contributed and guilt-tripped my friends into donating so he won’t lose faith in humanity :p

13) I’m trying to get involved in charities like I used to. One of my goals is to build a non-profit organization that will help children/teens heal through reading and writing. In the meantime, I just support in any way I can.

Think of going to the gym? Make the decision when you wake up, not before bedtime.

This is just me, but I’ve figured what works for me in terms of motivation. I don’t promise myself I’ll go to the gym the next day, before bedtime, because let’s be realistic, it is darn difficult to think about going to the gym when I wake up in the morning. After a good-night’s sleep, the last thing I want to do is get up from my warm bed. I look at the gym schedule the night before and set my alarm to a certain time (if it’s my day-off), but I don’t promise myself I’ll go on a specific time, unless there’s a gym class I really want to attend.

The key is not to add pressure or make yourself feel like going to the gym is going to be a burden to your day. If you go to bed relaxed, you’ll wake up hopeful and with the energy that will encourage you to go. If you wake up and feel too tired, then sleep in for a bit and go later. But, this will make exercise part of your life, not a roadblock. This has worked for me.

I’ve been told many times to make a schedule and stick to it; it doesn’t work for me. Life happens and sometimes it is not possible to stick to a workout schedule. The whole point is to reduce stress, live healthy, and be happy. Creating frustrations due to lack of gym attendance provoked by unexpected situations isn’t going to help me.

That’s my opinion.

Daily Prompt: Terminal Time

The daily prompt for today: You’re at the airport, your flight is delayed for six more hours, and none of your electronic devices is working. How do you pass the time?

Well, the same way I survived my childhood; by reading, writing, drawing. You know, back when there was a life outside of technology. If anything, I’d scare other people with my terrible singing until they change their flight and I can get the plane all to myself (I’d have to make sure I don’t scare the crew, though). It’s sad that a few hours without electronic devices can be seen as a nightmare. I’m 26 and while I feel like a dinosaur sometimes, I remember finding something else to do when my walkman didn’t work. If I was with my sister, we’d play I-Spy, or if I was in the car with my cousins travelling to the countryside, we would make fun of my uncle’s under-the-speed-limit driving (snails looked like daredevils next to him).

I can definitely see myself breaking the news to teenagers.

Me: Unfortunately, due to unexpected circumstances, technology is out of limits for the next 6 hours.

Teenagers: o_O

Me: No selfies for 6 hours!

Teenagers: =start a riot=

Poetry: Flowing Feelings

34395_448424928479_8077687_n

The gentle touch of flowing feelings

sermonizes your veracity,

patching up the rough road

desiring to enlighten your spirit.

~~~
The gentle touch of flowing feelings
diverts you from strong currents,
liberating panic from lost hope
embracing you with a new purpose.
~~~

The gentle touch of flowing feelings

glow a smile through expressed sadness

erasing failures through your passions

lifting you up to newly open gates.

~~~
The gentle touch of flowing feelings
chant your thoughts on lifelong plaques
emerging answers all can see
dispersing ease on global pain.
~~~

Poetry: Demure Visions

DSC01881

Demure visions

of future yearning

solely to gratify

such immense contemplation.

~~~
Rising hopes
in disputed actions
fear of tears once it’s revealed
but facing it with valiant sentiments.
~~~

Why the unknown

is there such sign

can one be blind,

or misconstrue?

~~~
Your eyes speak the truth
your words can’t justify
is it going to happen
or will I await forever?
Appreciating Life
I’ve been sort of M.I.A. this weekend, because I volunteered at the Cancer Relay for Life. It was an awesome event (they fed us, so that’s always good) and met so many survivors and others who persevere in the fight against cancer. May 27th marked my grandpa’s one year since he lost his battle with cancer at age 85. I volunteered in his honour. He defeated cancer once when I was little and was able to live a full and healthy life. Every day is a gift and I’ve heard from survivors how watching a sunset can be a victory, so yesterday I took a minute to appreciate the sunset. Life is short, so live without regrets.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Room
It’s time for a new photo challenge! This week is all about rooms. Your room can be a comfort zone, and it doesn’t always have to mean a space surrounded by walls. I know I feel safe whenever I’m in my room inside my house, but also when I’m outside with nature (unless my peace gets disturbed by cruel bugs). How about you?
 This one was taken while staying at a friend’s house
These ones were taken outside (as if you couldn’t tell :p)
