Netflix: Your nagging conscience

I love Netflix. I do get a lot for what I pay for each month. Thanks to it, the word ‘sleep’ has disappeared from my vocabulary. Netflix is a nagging little conscience that just won’t quit until it sees you binging on your favourite TV Shows or Movies, regardless of whether your eyes are red and shutting down, or you are alert and awake. If you have Netflix (like me) you’re probably craving a long and proper sleep. Here’s a reminder of what that’s like:

-Netflix makes you like movies you never thought you would. Your quality senses usually decrease at night, when you decide to watch a movie, because it has become part of your routine.

-Netflix is your lullaby. There are times when your favourite TV show or movie become your bed time story. Because sleeping on your own terms has become your weakness, and you must listen to your favourite plots in order to regain your sleepiness. You know, because how dare one go to sleep without listening to Rose cry as she realizes Jack has officially gained his wings (Titanic).

-Netflix is good for your budget. Ever had those sudden cravings or a scheduled trip to the supermarket? Forget it. Netflix will remind you not to go because your favourite scene is about to play. Sometimes, you’ll find yourself grabbing a plate of fruit, instead of going to the store to buy a box of ice cream cones, because yes the movie is THAT good.

-Netflix has somewhat increase your reputation. The staff at your local library will believe you when you tell them you’re thinking of checking out books and that you’ll actually read them.

-Netflix has changed the way you watch TV. On the rare occasion you decide to check your cable channels, commercials will drive you insane to the point of no return. You now have zero patience.

-Friends? What friends? Oh, you mean the ones you converted into loving Netflix and are staying home chatting with you when you could be hanging out? Oh yes, I remember.

-Netflix has made you movie greedy. How dare Netflix charge you so much per month and not have every movie in existence? After all, you have sacrificed part of your monthly clothing budget to pay for it. Yes, very first world problem.

-Netflix has made you forgiving. It may not have all the movies, but it only takes one TV show or movie that takes you down childhood memory lane for you to trust it again.

-Netflix: You have a paper? How about a long movie?

-Netflix: Homework? How about a career change? Watch movies and become a movie critic.

Netflix is awesome, though. It does kill boredom :p, and I can relive the good old memories by watching some of my favourite movies and TV shows, without commercials and whenever I want. It feels good having a bit of control despite the hectic work schedule! Hey, if your favourite dance scene comes out, you can dance to it without making a fool of yourself :p (well, that is until you do decide to show this dance to your friends and end up making a fool of yourself).

When you experience Writer’s Block

Every writer has a different opinion on this matter; some believe it and some don’t. I believe it, because we all have those moments of unclarity. This is what usually happens to me when I experience writer’s block. To some people, writer’s block is like a unicorn symbol in the writing world. We all run out of ideas from time to time, and lose concentration, right? Writer’s block isn’t something to be ashamed of; it isn’t a contagious disease. But, let’s see if you’re familiar with any of the following:

-No matter how hard I try, sometimes I forget words I shouldn’t. For example, I want to say, “consistently trying to achieve” but I can’t shorten it in one word.

-When I start to laugh at my own lame jokes, I know I’m in big trouble. It feels as though my well of imagination has gone through an eternal drought.

-No matter how hard I try to concentrate, my mind wonders somewhere else. Hey, even when I’m crushing over someone, I can find ways to write about it, but when I’m under writer’s block logic invades my fantasy world. It’s like a horror movie, where the monster is trying to erase your vocabulary and grammar…scary!

-When I feel there’s an idea coming, I try to avoid everything until I write it down, in fear of losing it forever. When ideas flow through my mind, it feels like I found the gold at the end of the rainbow.

Hopefully you can relate :p. My advice is, whenever you go ‘blank,’ just take a break and let creativity come back to you again. We all need a break once in a while.

Poetry: Reflecting Ways

Why do you wait to fall

to see where your heart belongs…forever

Why do you stand uptight

when you have to look down…never.

Visions of beyond

live by intuition

forgiveness can feel near

own up to being so fearless.

Make a way for your enchantments

or what you like

don’t be trapped by useless methods

just make everything alike.

Fear is undeserved punishment

reflect on sightings

drain thoughts

unlock  the power

pave your struggles with hope

and strength.

Poetry: A Dark Herd

Pure darkness above the trail
by the end where there is shame
down the bridge where people fail
but then who is to blame?

The herd will make seamless paths
underneath a field of dust
to hide their own wrath
neither of them knows who to trust.

Stuck in their own pile
who will go and who will stay
some will say they’re vile
but there are those who have their own say.

Trapped in an earthly shell
where the curious will open and break free
it’s part of their dwell
some of them will make a plea.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Twist

*sings* Come on baby, let’s do the twist, take my little hand and go like this. Now that we have broken the ice by singing to Chubby Checker, we can now move on to this week’s photo challenge. The Daily Post wants to know, “What does ‘twist’ means to you?”

Nature is a perfect twist maker. I love hearts and I often tend to find these shapes around nature

Sometimes, your hands and arms don’t cooperate when you’re trying to take a picture, but if you look at the bright side, the results can create a mysterious feeling! The second photo below is a combination of two photos. The background is very much the original and the people were taken from another photo (of the same set of pictures) where two people turned out looking like shadows/ghosts :p.

Your Ipod breaks: An Apocalypse

My best friend’s Ipod broke today, and we had a moment of silence for it before she RAN to the store to get a new one. Because my friends, when your Ipod breaks, all hell breaks loose.

The power music has on you is immense, you can’t live without it when it is part of routine to listen to it when: you go for a walk, to the gym, to help you sleep, to inspire you, to write, etc. I remember when I was in my pre-teens (more than 13 years ago o_O) I couldn’t live without my CD player and Walkman. There was a time when my sister broke my Sony walkman, which was very dear to me, and I thought life was over. Of course, my parents taught me a lesson not to make a big deal over objects you can replace, but I realized listening to music meant a lot to me.

In reality, it’s not the Ipod itself that matters to you when it breaks, but the connection you lose when it happens. The connection that helps inspire you or get you through a bad day, when you listen to your favourite songs. Which is why as soon as you get your new Ipod, you don’t spend time admiring the machine, but you quickly start transferring all your playlists.

Just remember not to lose yourself in unnecessary despair; Ipods can be replaced. You can still listen to music on your laptop, your phone, ipad, etc. It does feel like an Apocalypse, but it’s no more than roadblock.

I got some beauty products today

I get a lot of my products from Fruits and Passions, but today I went to The Face Shop for the first time. I’ve heard good reviews and wanted to give a try. First of all, I only wear make-up when I have to, but I try not to (maybe this is why I still get carded). However, I love perfumes, creams,  scented body washes, etc. At work, my co-workers always tell me they know when I entered the building, because of the good smell :p. So here are few things I bought after sampling at The Face Shop (Korean company).

This is the bag they gave me. The crumpled bag look is my fault :p

  photo (2)

These are cleansing wipes. I’m IN LOVE with them!! I tried the Rice and Olive wipes, but in the end I went with the Herb Day wipes. They feel natural, fresh, and the scent is not strong.  I used the testers to remove the foundation I tried on, and it worked fast and well.

photo (3)

I sampled this foundation at the store and it blended very well with my skin. My skin is sensitive so I’m always on the lookout for soft products.

photo (6)

These are facial masks. I bought just one to try and it leaves my skin feeling soft. The only thing is be careful when you remove the mask from the package; it is VERY damped.

photo (4)

I bought their nail polish remover. I haven’t tried it, but the smell is not strong like other removers out there.

photo (5)

If you ever go there, be sure to ask for a sample package if they forget to give you one. This is the one I got :). If you get one of this, please keep the package, because it has instructions in English 😀 (unless you can read Korean).

 photo (7)

The only thing I was hesitant to buy was their shampoos and conditioners, because they’re not sulfate-free. I wouldn’t mind trying them, but my hair is used to Aveeno’s Sulfate-Free products, and I don’t know if I should change or not. My hair is needy and it can go from looking like it’s ready for a shampoo commercial to a drunk Medusa. If you’re looking for shampoos, I do recommend Aveeno! I love the scent it leaves on my hair and the way it feels afterwards! But, like I said I may try The Face Shop’s hair products just to see how they feel.

I’ll let you know!  But, I can say my experience today was great. Their employees were helpful and kind. I’ll definitely go back to try more products!

Poem: One last year

Recalled memories

and taught lessons

you knew my voice

that one last year.

Unexpected turns

survival of the souls

unprepared for loss

you stayed,

for one last year.

You remembered her

all your travels

all the emotions

all my stories

and you reminded me

that one last year.

And we told each other

peace and love

until one of us hung up

you showed strength

through your weakened body

that one last year.

Our last good-bye was routine

I told you we’d talk again

peace and love

until next time

that one last day.

I reached for the phone

you weren’t there

you’re in eternal peace

and eternal love

You showed me goodness

You may be gone

but you’re with your love,

and I’ll always remember

our one last year.

According to some people, Godzilla was real…

I don’t know what to think. Am I losing hope in humanity? I just watched a “funny” segment video from Jimmy Kimmel, where they interview bystanders about Godzilla. They ask them if they feel the directors were being insensitive to the fact Godzilla was a real lizard that terrorized Tokyo. A lot of people probably laughed it off, but others seriously played along. They honestly thought Godzilla was a REAL EVENT…“But, maybe they thought Godzilla was the name of a natural disaster?” Yeah no, the interviewer clearly mentioned that Godzilla was a lizard…

I do feel bad for these people. We all have our clumsy moments, but this is seriously taking it to another level. A giant lizard (not a dinosaur) taking over a city, does that make sense at all? Although, if that were to happen, I wouldn’t hear the end of it, because my nickname used to be Lizard (and did I mention I like some Japanese foods?). If Godzilla were real, I’d be in trouble.

I give these people credit for using their imagination, but we gotta ask ourselves why this is happening. I’m speechless.  Yes I laughed, but I also felt sad for them and others out there who think this way. I don’t want to post the video, because it’s discouraging. What can we do to change this? Is it really that hard to learn Godzilla is not real?

But for now, I’m going back to Rivendell to grab the elves’ Chupacabra mascot that’s ready to fight aliens,  the ones who with the help of Stormtroopers destroyed our zombies, in order to obtain a drop of water from the fountain of youth, by using their magic wands, flying carpet, and Wolverine.

My random story of the day

Hello fellow Middle-Earthlings…wait, wrong world…Let’s try this again…Hello, fellow bloggers! Hope the week has been treating you great :). As you know, Snow White is jealous of me when it comes to animal interactions (ha ha just kidding). But, animals around here love to appear out of nowhere and do funny things. Like I’ve always said, the leftover food in the trash cans must be good here.

Today, I was walking home from work when I noticed two birds staring at the road. One of them was standing on a garbage bin and the other on the sidewalk. The former just stood on the bin, while the latter carefully started walking to the road as soon as the cars passed. Why? Well, there was food in the middle of the road. What amazed me was that he timed it perfectly, because he was able to walk back as the light turned green and the cars approached. Unfortunately, for his garbage bin friend, he didn’t bring it any of the road food for him.
